The Laser Center of Moultrie was opened in early 2004. The impetus for its formation came from patients who requested laser services close to home.
In one stop you can receive state of the art laser services for hair removal, facial rejuvenation, and other cosmetic needs. And although we pride ourselves on our care of women, we are able to meet the laser needs of all members of the family!
Our laser center is run by Elaine A. Barber, M.D. Many of you may know Elaine from the years she spent as one of Moultrie’s orthopaedic surgeons. Retiring from the practice of medicine in the fall of 2003, she now dedicates her working hours to the Laser Center.
You may wonder what we do here at the laser center. More than you probably suspect! We have two lasers and a microdermabrasion machine. We offer chemical peels, a complete line of skin care products (including anti-aging products), and a line of mineral make-up (which is good for the skin). We are ready and willing to help you look your very best!

The Laser Center of Moultrie utilizes two state of the art lasers to provide services ranging from hair removal to wrinkle reduction. Read on to learn more about these exciting services.
The Candela GentleLASE laser is our hair removal laser. It is rated for permanent hair reduction by the FDA. It is fifty percent faster than older model lasers, and it is equipped with a special cooling device to make the treatment more comfortable.
The ideal candidate for hair removal is a black or brown haired person with lighter skin. The laser does not work on blonde, gray, or red hair. Hair growth is divided into three stages. In order for the laser to be effective, hair must be in the first stage of growth. This is why it takes multiple treatments to accomplish permanent hair reduction.
The GentleLASE is also effective in removing age spots, freckles, and birthmarks. The newest use for this laser is facial rejuvenation which uses multiple modalities to improve texture and tone, while reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
Our second laser is the Candela Vbeam vascular laser. It is the gold standard laser for treating blood vessel lesions, having been used in some form in the United States since the 1980s. This laser removes spider veins, cherry angiomas, and birthmarks. Rosacea and nasal and facial veins are effectively treated with the Vbeam. This laser also participates in our facial rejuvenation packages.

Our website would be remiss if we did not educate you on what you can do to try to prevent further damage to your skin. Part of the change we see in our skin as we go from youth to old age is inevitable. It has to do with changes that occur as our bodies age, cellular processes slow, and tissues shift. But a lot of what we see is the direct result of sun exposure.
Obviously, prevention is the best medicine. However, many of us got sun as children, before scientists even knew that sun exposure was bad for us. We can make it a point to protect our children and ourselves now. Sun smart behavior includes staying out of the sun between 10AM and 3PM, wearing a hat with a 4 inch brim, and using sunscreen.
The issue of sun protection is a whole topic unto itself. There are 2 categories of sun protectors-sunscreens and sun blocks. Under new FDA rules, the term sun block is no longer allowed. It was felt that this gave people a false sense of security in that no sun protector can block out all of the sun’s damaging rays. Sunscreens are chemicals that need time to penetrate your skin so that they can neutralize the damage done by the sun. Used correctly, they should be applied 30 minutes prior to sun exposure in ample quantities. Sun blocks have microcrystals which actually reflect the sun’s harmful rays. There are sun protectors available which contain both.
There is so much to talk about, but we have to stop somewhere. More is available today than ever before to address unwanted hair, skin imperfections, and sun damaged skin. Whether it is a birth mark, an age spot, spider veins, or hair in the wrong place, it can be dealt with. Come see us to see what we can do for you!

In order to help you attain and maintain maximal results, we have a retail line of skin care products. Rejuvi skin care products are manufactured at the Rejuvi lab in San Francisco, California. The developer of the line is a biochemist with extensive knowledge of Oriental herbalogy, analytical chemistry, pharmacology, and chemical engineering. The company’s focus is rejuvenation and their criterion is performance. We are proud to be able to bring you the latest in skin care cosmeceuticals.
So what are cosmeceuticals? They are topical products that have been shown to have a demonstrated benefit to you skin. These include Vitamin C, Vitamin A, alpha lipoic acid, and DMAE. We carry a full line of anti-aging products, as well as cleansers, whitening agents, and acne products.
After you get your skin looking its best, we have Jane Iredale mineral make up to finish out your look. Jane Iredale, known as the skin care make up, is a true extension of your skin care. The minerals contain pigments, not dyes, which give incredible coverage in amazing colors. They also act as anti-inflammatories and physical sun blocks. Ease of application with hand-tied brushes is another plus.

Microderm 
Microdermabrasion
Other services that we are proud to offer include microdermabrasion and chemical peels. These can be performed as a solo service or as part of a facial rejuvenation package. Remember, facial rejuvenation is the improvement of your skin’s tone and texture, as well as a reduction in wrinkles, using a variety of modalities.
You can think of microdermabrasion as a gentle sandblasting of your skin. Our medical grade Derma Genesis microdermabrasion machine sprays aluminum oxide crystals onto your face while a vacuum removes them, along with the dead upper layer of your skin. The vacuum stimulates increased blood flow to the bottom layer of your skin giving you a healthy glow. The vacuum also stimulates the bottom layer to start producing new cells and to form more collagen, the building block of skin. After a series of treatments, you have a fresh new look. And a mini-facial is included with the treatment.
Our chemical peels utilize Rejuvi skin care products. We perform both glycolic acid peels and enzyme peels. Our glycolic acid peels are made from alpha and beta hydroxy acids derived from fruit extracts. They are available in strengths ranging for thirty to seventy percent. Our enzyme peel is stronger and features lactic acid from milk, as well as salicylic acid and other naturally derived ingredients.
